Today’s special, a free crochet cupcake pattern! Did you know that unicorns and cupcakes are FRIENDS? Best friends in fact. This little cupcake cutie let her best unicorn friend do her hair! (yes, I absolutely amuse myself) I made my pint-sized unicorns and they truly needed some pint-sized cupcakes. These cupcake friends measure 2″ with worsted weight yarn and 1″ with sock yarn. They’re smaller than most of the other amigurumi cupcake patterns I’ve found. They’re so quick and easy to make, you won’t want to stop. I have crochet cupcakes coming out of my ears. So here’s the pattern.
Supplies
For this project, you will need:
- worsted weight yarn
- 3.5mm crochet hook (or similar size)
- yarn needle
- safety eyes, or black embroidery thread (or lightweight yarn)
- fiberfill stuffing (or a pillow)

Crochet Cupcake Pattern
Here’s the whole pattern. Image and descriptions are below.
Magic Ring
1- SC 6 in the ring
2- INC in each (12)
3- * SC1. INC 1.* repeat (18)
4-8 SC in each
9- RUFFLE – FRONT LOOPS only, we need the back loops to continue on with the bottom color.
option 1 – * DC 3 in the same stitch. Slip stitch the next 2 * Repeat.
option 2 – * SC and chain 3. SC next stitch * Repeat.
10- Attach new color and SC in the BACK loops.
11-15 SC in each
Add Safety eyes now (or wait until it’s finished to embroider eyes)
16- START TO CLOSE OFF – Work in BACK LOOPS so fabric folds toward the middle (makes a bottom edge)
* SC 2. DEC.* repeat
start stuffing here. make sure fabric folds while you stuff.
17- SC 2. DEC. *repeat Only 2 times – not all the way around
Bind off. Sew closed by picking up the front loops around the circle. Pull closed, knot and hide tail.
Embroider A smile
Make a horizontal strand. Then pull it down into a smile by tacking it down in 2 spots.
Don’t have safety eyes? or maybe you’re worried about little mouths? Now’s the time to create eyes. You can fully embroider them. They’re easy and very cute. Here’s Lisa over at Wee Wolly Wonderfulls to explain how to embroider eyes onto all of your dolls.
