Sleepy Crochet Unicorn – Free Amigurumi Pattern

Sleeping unicorns are just the most precious thing. These magical angels rule the dreamworld and sleep in the clouds. I had to create this pattern to go along with my other Unicorn minis! It works up at a mere 5″ with sport-weight yarn. I really like this design because it can be other things. Add some wings and it could be a flying dragon or a flying pig 😀 For sure add some puppy ears and work up a few so they can sleep in a pile like adorable doggies do. For this project, I stuck with the unicorn… and made three!

ATTACH HAIR

I have quite a bit of doll hair lying around the house, so I opt to glue these stands onto most of my crochet dolls. Besides, I’ll accept any reason to pull out the hot glue gun. You also can make yarn look like hair just by brushing it. Run it through a straightening iron and you have smooth realistic-looking hair. If you have a little animal brush, that works wonders. Be warned! You will lose a lot of fibers and may experience breakage in the process. It’s good to experiment and get the hang of it prior to attaching it to your precious cutie. The absolute easiest answer to creating an adorable mane would be to merely hook pieces of yarn through the holes of the crochet (like a latch hook rug). Plain ole yarn adds a special charm when used for hair. You could also untwist the ‘plys’ with a yarn needle. This method is also super cute.

EMBROIDER SLEEPY EYES

Difficulty to cuteness ratio one to a thousand! Pull black embroidery thread through the head from the back. Come out where your eye starts, and pull across to where the eye ends. Leave some slack. Tack it down with 3 little eyelashes. Try making the shape of a starburst. If you didn’t follow a word I said, here’s Jen from Wee Warrior Crafts to show you how (you’ll have to adjust her stitch count for smaller dolls. I only crossed 4 stitches.)
